About the event
Join Andrea Glowatz, learning specialist and director of UD's The College School, in a workshop where participants will consider the delicate art of helping middle school students demystify what it means to have a learning difference. In today's educational landscape, many students grapple with diverse learning and behavioral challenges within the classroom. By delving into common diagnoses such as dyslexia, ADHD, and emotional difficulties, participants will learn how they might foster an environment of understanding that diminishes stigma and emphasizes the importance of tailored learning support systems. Andrea will also demonstrate the moral imperative of empowering learners with tools to advocate for their unique needs. Explicitly teaching self-advocacy not only paves the way for academic success but also cultivates a sense of confidence and resilience, mitigating negative emotions that may arise from learning profiles that deviate from the norm.
