My “why” for teaching: While I have always known that in some form, I wanted to work with children the moment that stands out to me most where I knew this is where I absolutely want to be has to do with one of the kids I work with. By simply forming a positive, loving relationship with him, he went from a kid that was kicked out of schools left and right and could not sit for a lesson to someone who now not only enjoys but excels in school. My “why” for teaching is giving kids those opportunities. I want them to feel as if they are not alone, and will always have someone in the corner. I want to give them the chance to succeed and live up to their full potential.
Favorite EdRising Moment: While there’s many positive memories, I think my favorite has to be seeing one of my chapters community service events turn out. We had been working on this event, which was a Holiday Hoopla, for months and members were really pushing to get it done. The night of, it ended up being a huge success and we had over 50 kids come. It was great to see all of our members interacting with the kids, and how everyone’s passion for education truly came out in that moment.
